Today we continue A Course in Creation.
In our Course in Creation, we began inside. You have been working on calming yourself, centering yourself and learning to love yourself deeply. You have been practicing forgiveness, and understanding it as a gift you give to yourself, a way that you gently release the past so that you might move yourself deeply into the present. And you have created a world view for yourself, a way to look at the world which makes you feel safe and loved and helps you realize how deeply treasured you are and how much help is there for you, in every moment. And then, last week, you opened up your connection to the rest of the world through expanding your intuitive and psychic skills, understanding them as a natural part of who you are, just like your other senses such as taste and smell.
And now, you are ready to take the internal power which you have built up in yourself and see what you can make of your life, see how you can introduce some desires into the world and help them to manifest.
Before we talk directly about this, however, there are a few things to be said. First, this weekly course is one which may take you many years to master. You must be patient with yourself and the world around you. The external world will come to mirror you as you grow and evolve inside. But this does not happen overnight. It happens gradually and in its own way. Great patience is required, to get yourself to this point and to move forward.
Whenever you are dealing with your deep connection with the world, you must be deeply patient and you must be coming from love: love of yourself, love of life, love of your connection to all that is. The depth of your love and your patience and yes, your gratitude, will enhance your ability to create the life you wish to live. And if you find that you are sometimes going backwards, this is also very natural. You will move forward and think that you have achieved some new place, only to find yourself pulled backwards into some old cycle.
That is because the progress you have made was in one area or to one depth only. You will find it necessary to return and repeat this entire cycle, from inward self love to outward expression, over and over, as you cleanse the past and all that it contained, as old habits reassert themselves and need to be purged and purified. Relax and have faith in your own ability to change, to evolve, to grow and to learn. Know that all of this is perfectly natural. Expect it.
And as we begin to talk about manifestation, know that it is a great paradox. You will find this to be so as we discuss it. And you must just accept this as well.
Desire is something which you can expect never to be satisfied. As you desire something and as that desire is fulfilled, you will simply replace that desire with another desire. And so, you may wish to free yourself from this cycle of desire or allow it to flow easily. But do not expect that you will ever, in this physical lifetime, reach a point in which you are completely fulfilled and satisfied, some time in your life when you say, “Ah, this is it.” You will have moments like this, but then you will simply move on and want the next thing. This is natural and normal and a part of human experience. You will never be without an obstacle to overcome or a desire to fulfill. This is a part of what you do.
It is hoped, merely, that your desires will become more centered upon loving acts and service, rather than the mere possession of material goods and the fulfillment of romantic fantasies. But in any event, it is all a part of who you are as a human. It is all a part of your journey. So relax and let it be.
And so, one of the paradoxes is this. Fulfilling your desires, while possible, is not going to fulfill you. The completion and fulfillment of an activity is not what is ultimately to be sought. What is to be sought is the involvement, the passion and the love in the process of the fulfillment. And since this is true, since it is the journey and not the destination which counts, why not aim high, why not set out at the foot of the highest mountain possible and give it all that you have, give it your entire heart?
It is common wisdom in this society at this time to set very attainable goals so that you might have the satisfaction of their fulfillment. And while it is true that it is very nice to reach a ledge on the mountain and rest for a moment, looking out upon the landscape below and congratulating yourself on this feat, is it not the mountain peak which you truly desire? And if you do not have that in mind, if you are not aiming for something high and vast, is the climb worth it? Do you truly wish to spend your lifetime in conquering small hillocks when you might head for the Himalayas?
We have spoken also of the power which you have inside. Know that this power comes from connection with all that is. As you become more connected, you will gain more power, the power of the connection with all people and all that is. And so, as you seek to fulfill desires which are entirely separate, which are for you only, you are separating yourself from your power. As you seek to fulfill desires which are for a greater good, which allow everyone to benefit and gain, then you are connecting yourself to the source of your power, which is the all. Remember this if you become frustrated in your ability to manifest what you wish. Your very separateness is disempowering. Your connection and your ability to give is what strengthens and empowers you.
And this brings us to the ultimate paradox of wish fulfillment and manifestation. If you were so completely connected, so deeply enlightened and a part of the great field of intention and beingness that you could access all power and therefore manifest anything and everything you cared to, you would have no desire to do so. You would be free from desire because you would realize, in the depth of that connection, that everything is perfect exactly as it is, and that everything one might wish for already exists and all you need to do is be one with all that is in a state of joy and peace.
Yes, all of this is so. So remember this when you work on manifestation and wish fulfillment. Remember that the more you want and desire, the less power you have toward its manifestation, and the more power you have, the less you will desire. Ah, life is such a paradox, is it not? But is that not where the mystery and the fun begin?
Yes, the fun. For you must look at life in this way. For laughter and love are the elements which free you from these cycles of expectation and disappointment, striving and trying only to find yourself standing at the mountain top, disappointed with what you find there. Love your life. Love every moment. Laugh loudly at every opportunity. Awaken with joy in your heart, throw open the window and breathe in the fresh air. Let life flood in through your veins and declare, "I am the luckiest of people. I am so glad to be alive, right now, being me, exactly as I am, in this wonderful life, full of bounty and love and goodness. Thank you, thank you, for letting me have this experience.”
From this place of lack of desire, from this place of love and gratitude, from this place of connection, you are empowered and can begin to attract toward you all that you might possibly wish.
Let it be like this. Be happy and in joy every moment of your day, no matter what your circumstances, no matter what is happening outside you. Take every moment you can, sitting with your cat in your lap, walking across the parking lot and looking up at the sky, enjoying your own lovely thoughts, singing a song, dancing to music you love, take every such opportunity to just enjoy your life and who you are. And then, let this spirit, the way you feel when you are like this, when you are free of your ego and your fear and doubt, when you are abandoned to simply being alive, let this feeling enter into your heart as you also focus on the next thing you would like to manifest in your life.
This is the place of power. This feeling of freedom, this feeling of peace, this feeling of connection. I would ask you to find ways to bring this feeling to you, to call it into your heart. Through nature, music, animals, in any way that works for you, or simply by sitting quietly. Find a way to reach connection, a place where your heart is full of gratitude and your mind is quiet. Experiment until you reach little glimpses of this feeling. And then, know this feeling as the seat of true power.
And then, all you need to do is introduce your desire into that power. Depending upon your individual intuitive strengths, which might be defined as your strengths in reaching into the dimensions of connection and being, you may find different ways work better for you in introducing desire than for others. As with everything else, it is entirely up to you to find out what works. If you are a strong visualizer, you might wish to simply picture yourself in the condition you wish to attain. Picture yourself as successful and already being in that state of completion and fulfillment. And introduce this picture into your place of power which you have discovered for yourself.
Do this every day. Find a length of time which works for you. For some people, it is a standard 20 minute meditation. But for others, they may be able to reach a state of relaxation and connection more quickly, and just a few minutes will do. If your connection is with music, for example, you might put on a piece of music which reaches deeply into your heart and in the opening strains, picture what you desire and then spend the rest of the piece of music in just opening your heart to your own power and connection and gratitude.
For others, visualization may not be the strongest way. You may find that it works better for you to write out your desire, what you wish to manifest. This may help keep you focused. You might wish to write it out ten times, always in very positive tones and in the present tense. I am or I am becoming. Express the fulfillment of the desire you are manifesting.
And if you do not know what it is that you wish for your life, consider yourself blessed. For the plan is out there, the purpose lies ahead of you and you will have a great adventure discovering it. All you need to do is relax and go into your place of connection. And there, release any wanting and desire. Release any frustration or doubt and just let yourself float on the connection. Ask only that you be helped along your path. Ask only that your higher self find expression through you and that you be led, step by step, as you should be led. This is, in the end, a more powerful state than manifesting a specific desire, and is not to be underestimated.
And out of that may come some flashes of vision or knowing, an understanding of the next thing you are to do on this path. And then, you may focus on that and bring it to fruition, knowing full well that it will be replaced by yet another step along the way. This is an excellent way to progress, one that shows that you are not satisfying the demands of your ego-mind but instead proceeding on the path of your higher self.
And then, you must let go. You must just let go of this desire, let go of any specific expectations, and let the universe deliver in her own way and in her own time. Know that you will be surprised. Know that many coincidences will flow toward you, and the more rigid you are in your expectations, the less you will be able to take advantage of what the universe is delivering.
For the manifestation of your desire is not just a parlor trick, it is a way to help you evolve. And you will find that the path to manifestation will demand much of you. It will demand that you overcome great obstacles and grow inside; it will demand that you show great courage by stepping out in faith. It will ask all of this of you. It will ask you to pursue apparently meaningless paths just because they feel right. It will ask you to go against the advice all your friends and family. It will ask you to take great risks, based only on that feeling inside that it is what you are supposed to do, even though you could not possibly justify it rationally. The path of manifestation is one of growth and learning and evolution toward your higher self.
Remember, you will be led to climb the mountain. And as you do so, the storms will blow and force you to take cover. But the morning following the storm will dawn in crystalline beauty beyond imagining. The ledge will become narrow and force you to leap across a chasm based on faith that the other ledge will hold you upon landing. You will come to trust your instincts and your courage. And signs will be everywhere. Little signs, like a bird swooping down in front of you and saying, this way, follow me. You will learn to become open to these signs and to follow them. Everything will come to you as you need it and not before, freeing you from your need for safety and hoarding.
Just enough, just in time. This is the delivery mechanism of the universe. And when you are deeply in tune, when your connection is very strong, you will come to know this and be able to go forward in faith, knowing that the answer will appear as it is needed, if only you will let courage, faith and action replace fear and doubt.
For you have, of course, your free will, your ability to choose. And when you sit in fear and doubt, refusing to take that leap, refusing to climb any further without proof and a guarantee of success, you are exercising your choice. And the universe’s response will be to gradually dissolve the intention and power which was brought to bear. As you refuse opportunity after opportunity, the strength and power of those opportunities will drop off, and eventually the enterprise will be abandoned, abandoned through your own choice of not following your own heart. But when this happens, know that you can bring it back to life, can bring it back in full force, through your own choice to fill your heart with love and passion, to reach back into connection and ask, once again, for the path to open before you.
The universe does not hold a grudge and never gives up on you. As long as you choose to walk forward in courage, faith and love, the ways will be opened before you, and coincidences and serendipities will flow your way. Look for them. Believe in them. Trust in then and act upon them. And know that what does not make sense now may make sense years down the line. That person you are kind to now may resurface in a position to be of great help to you many years hence. Relax and just let it all flow and be. Proceed with faith and courage and an open heart and with infinite patience and all will continue to open and blossom before you.
Stay away from those things which drain your power, including fear, doubt, hesitation, frustration and anger. These negative emotions will disempower you. Remember too that it is all your responsibility. The universe will put information in front of you, but you must then act upon it. The universe will send people to give you advice, but you must be willing to take it. The universe will put an opportunity right in front of you, but you must be willing to drop what you are holding now, the old safety and possessions and reach out and grasp the new.
You have all the power. Stay in the place of power and connection and stay there without doubt and fear and with faith and courage. That is the answer. And know that when you slip back into these old ways, you can always recover. Yes, you will have lost a little time, but that is all right. You may have slipped and fallen completely off the mountain many times, but you can still begin again and do well. It is never too late. No matter how old you are, no matter how much money and time you have, no matter how alone, no matter how overburdened, you can still put one foot on that mountain your heart yearns for and take a step upward. And when you do, the universe will sit up and take notice. "Ah, at last," the angels will say, "She is about to act!" For in the end, your action is the strongest possible message you can send out to the universe. Action which is in the now, which is in the moment, which is centered within a feeling of knowing, which is full of faith. Ah, yes, this sends out a powerful message. A message which rings out across the universe and which summons vast power to your side.
You are deeply loved. You are in the center of a wonderful, benevolent universe which wishes you well. You are deeply connected to a higher being which is also you, your own soul self, always there, always full of love and wisdom. And you are one with all that is. With all of this power, the only thing which stands in your way is your old ego-mind, which wants to cling to what is familiar, which lives in fear and doubt.
It is all inside you. And it is all love. You are love and love is power. You are light and light overcomes all darkness. You are one with all that is, with the ultimate power and being. It all lies in the silence under the wings of that bird as he circles overhead. It all lies in the silence of the snow flake that falls and merges into that snow bank. It is all there, the power and wonder of the world, surrounding you and within you. Connect with it and be who you are. That is enough.

I’d like to share my favorite personal story about “coincidence.”
When Ed and I decided to get married, we didn’t want a big wedding, but I really didn’t want to get married in a courtroom or Las Vegas. Since we didn’t attend a church, I just opened the Yellow Pages, chose a church that looked fairly non-denominational and gave them a call.
Driving to the church on our wedding day, I mentioned in passing to my father that the minister was a Reverend Calhoun from Bellingham, Washington, where he had grown up. It turned out that this was a name he knew very well indeed. You see, by opening up the Yellow Pages in Southern California and selecting a church I had never attended and knew nothing about, we ended up being married by the son of the man who had married my parents many years before and a thousand miles north. And here Ed and I are, still together after more than thirty years.
I think Shakespeare’s Hamlet was right: “There is more in heaven and on earth than is dreamt of in your philosophies.”
